Let's go back a little...

In the beginning, a group of students had an idea. It was just an idea, but at the IEEE-IST Student Branch, every idea has the potential to be special.

We started from scratch, defining parameters and goals, and soon we found several volunteers motivated by what we felt was going to be a great project.

It wasn’t easy: it took effort, sacrifice, ingenuity, and patience. We used borrowed or personal equipment - even eggs’ boxes were used! Everything to have the best conditions (acoustics, lighting, image) and make videos with really high quality.

We had to convince professors and students of the project’s importance for education. In the beginning, there was some reluctance about what we were building but also a great enthusiasm. Step by step we grew into a relevant initiative in our community and with that the will of doing something bigger started to arise.

Also, the project counted with the support from the IEEE Portugal Section, that by recognizing the effort of the volunteers and also the potential of such project, supplied the IEEE-IST Academic team with the right tools to create high quality contents and evolve the development processes of IEEE Academic Modules.

The willpower, motivation and effort of the team made it possible to go from nothing to where we are today.

What is IEEE Academic

IEEE Academic is:

What is IEEE

IEEE, Advancing Technology for Humanity

IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

There are more than 425,000 IEEE members in over 160 countries around the world. IEEE members are engineers, scientists, and allied professionals whose technical interests are rooted in electrical and computer sciences, engineering, and related disciplines.

IEEE Academic is funded by a seed grant from the New Initiatives Program, that is designed to support potential new programs, products, or services that will provide significant benefit to IEEE members, the public, the technical community, and customers, or which could have a lasting impact on the IEEE.
